چکیده

We propose a new robust hypothesis test for (possibly nonlinear) constraints on Mestimators with possibly non-differentiable estimating functions. The proposed test employs a random normalizing matrix computed from recursive M-estimators to eliminate the nuisance parameters arising from the asymptotic covariance matrix. It does not require consistent estimation of any nuisance parameters, in contrast with the conventional heteroskedasticity autocorrelation consistent (HAC)-type test and the KVB-type test of Kiefer, Vogelsang, and Bunzel (2000). Our test reduces to the KVB-type test in simple location models with OLS estimation, so the error in rejection probability of our test in a Gaussian location model is OIP(T −1 log T ). We discuss robust testing in quantile regression, and censored regression models in details. In simulation studies, we find that our test has better size control and better finite sample power than the HAC-type and KVB-type tests. JEL classification: C12, C22

A Two-Phase Robust Estimation of Process Dispersion Using M-estimator

Parameter estimation is the first step in constructing any control chart. Most estimators of mean and dispersion are sensitive to the presence of outliers. The data may be contaminated by outliers either locally or globally. The exciting robust estimators deal only with global contamination. In this paper a robust estimator for dispersion is proposed to reduce the effect of local contamination ...

A Robust Dispersion Control Chart Based on M-estimate

Process control charts are proven techniques for improving quality. Specifying the control limits is the most important step in designing a control chart. The presence of outliers may extremely affect the estimates of parameters using classical methods. Robust estimators which are not affected by outliers or the small departures from the model assumptions are applied in this paper to specify th...

Robust Visual Recognition of Colour Images

In this paper, a robust pattern recognition system, using an appearance-based representation of colour images is described. Standard appearance-based approaches are not robust to outliers, occlusions or segmentation errors. The approach proposed here relies on robust M-estimators, involving non-quadratic and possibly non-convex energy functions. To deal with the minimisation of non-convex funct...

Estimating the proportion of true null hypotheses, with application to DNA microarray data

We consider the problem of estimating the proportion of true null hypotheses, π0, in a multiple-hypothesis set-up. The tests are based on observed p-values. We first review published estimators based on the estimator that was suggested by Schweder and Spjøtvoll. Then we derive new estimators based on nonparametric maximum likelihood estimation of thep-value density, restricting to decreasing an...

Robust estimation of non-linear aspects

As a rst step for dealing with eecient robust estimation in non-linear models , we regard the problem of eecient robust estimation of non-linear aspects (functions) '() of the unknown parameter of a linear model. For robust estimation of a general non-linear aspect we propose estimators which are based on one-step-M-estimators and derive their asymptotic behaviour at the contaminated linear mod...
